q: what does my child need to pack?
a: bible, notebook
and pen. sheets for a twin bed, pillow and blanket or
sleeping bag. towel(s) and washcloth. clothes
for outdoor activities as well as services. personal
toiletries. bathing suit (should be a one-piece, if
two piece a cover-up or shirt must be worn). optional:
spending money for the camp decision bookstore or snack bar,
camera (to preserve the memories). no-no's:
ipods, dvd players, laptops and pranking supplies.
q: what is a typical day
like at camp decision?
a: we keep things
fast paced at camp. monday is orientation and service,
friday is awards ceremony and service.
tuesday-thursday go something like this: early morning
prayer, breakfast, team meetings (for team competitions),
morning service, lunch, team competitions, free time (pool,
games, relax), dinner, evening service. we like to
keep everyone busy (people tend to get into less trouble)
and all "down time" is supervised.
q: how can i get in
touch with my child while they are at camp?
a: whether or not
your child is allowed to bring a cell phone is up to each
individual youth minister. we like for as few cell
phones as
possible to be at camp as they tend to be a distraction.
most youth ministers have cell phones with them and your
young person can be reached that way. for emergencies
ONLY you can contact FIT security at 321.674.8111.
q: what type of security
do you have at camp decision?
a: FIT has their own
campus security in place and on duty at all times. we
also have our own camp decision security, made up of
volunteers from various churches. they police the
dorms, help guide campers from activity to activity and make
rounds during free time. they are also the last ones
to go to sleep...checking every dorm and wing to make sure
everyone is accounted for. also, each camper has two
forms of camp ID; a bracelet with their name and church
name, as well as a photo ID. our security knows to
stop anyone they see that does not have those two forms of
ID.
q: can my son/daughter
come to multiple weeks of camp?
a: no. we do
not accept campers for multiple weeks. we desire that
each young person come with their youth group, as part of
the ministry at camp decision takes place within youth
groups and with their youth minister. we believe it is
a time of unity for youth ministries.
q: what are the sleeping
arrangements?
a: guys and girls
are NEVER put in the same wing and we never mix churches
(within rooms). we do our best to make the dorms
entirely male or entirely female unless our numbers force us
to do otherwise. IF dorms become mixed they are on
opposite sides of the building or completely different
floors. EVERY church is responsible to schedule
workers in their dorms so their young people are never in
their rooms alone.
q: what type of medical
help do you have at camp?
a: we have a camp
medic at each week. the medic always has some sort of
medical training; whether they are a registered nurse or an emt.
at orientation each week every camper who is on prescription
medication must register it with our medic and report to
them each day.
q: can i send my
son/daughter mail?
a: ABSOLUTELY!
in fact, we encourage it! the earlier you send it, the
better chance you have of your young person actually GETTING
it. address all letters, postcards or packages in this
manner:
